Decades earlier, a love for rum was sown during a Navy career, accompanied by a shared passion for sailing. In late 2020, founders Matt and Karen found themselves in their favorite bar in Singapore, contemplating their next venture. Amidst the brainstorming, the wild idea of establishing a rum and gin distillery in the Whitsundays surfaced. What initially seemed like a crazy notion soon evolved into a concrete plan after months of meticulous feasibility studies and online courses.
Nestled in the tropical paradise of the Whitsunday region in Queensland, the Whitsunday Islands Spirit House (WISH) will craft exceptional Rum and Gin, drawing inspiration from the abundant natural resources of the area – sugar cane, water, and the favorable climate. Their ties to the Whitsundays span three decades, and the dream of returning to the region after their overseas escapades became a reality.
Australia’s seafaring history is rich with rum, and the Whitsunday region stands as the country’s premier sailing holiday destination. With local sugar cane production, the craft Rum spirit crafted at WISH will not only add value to the local beverage industry but also cater to the burgeoning tourism market, attracting visitors from both domestic and international destinations. The Whitsunday Islands Spirit House is poised to create a spirited haven where the essence of the Whitsundays is bottled and shared with the world.
